Do you happen to go to sleep with wet hair and wake up with chaos on your head? This is not a desired look to kick-start a day.

I’ve been there! My hair is extremely unruly so I need to put a lot of effort to avoid styling them in the morning. Today, I want to share my best patents for nighttime hairstyles making you look your best the moment you wake up. Interested? Read on 🙂

I will start with basic mistakes we make in this field.

Mistake 1! Sleeping with wet hair

This kind of laziness might cost you a lot.

If you wash the hair right before sleep and neither blow-dry nor let it dry naturally, and go to sleep, you will surely wake up with creases, knots and tangled hair.

Another reason why we shouldn’t go to sleep with wet hair is that wet tresses are easily damaged. When rubbing the hair against a pillow, it consequently breaks. I was surprised myself: it dawned on me that sleeping with wet hair left me with split ends.

Mistake 2! Loose hair at night

The other mistake is similar to the first one. By sleeping with your hair down, you expose it to damage.

This mistake relates to long-haired girls (so me and many of you) since long tresses are the most likely to tangle. Leaving hair loose for the night means waking up with hair creases and messy strands. Plus more hairs fall out this way so there are actually no benefits.

I’ve got a remedy! 🙂

SLEEPING HAIRSTYLES FOR HEALTHY HAIR

Some time ago it dawned on me that my hair looked better and healthier when I started to tie it for the night. There is no exaggeration or placebo effect. My hair is smoother, better looking and no longer frizzy.

Putting hair up in a bun has lots of benefits:

  • hair is protected against tearing and tugging.
  • hair isn’t messy, tangled or frizzy.
  • you can define your natural hair shape e.g. curls and make the look longer-lasting.

HOW TO DO HAIR BEFORE SLEEP?

I usually make a low braid. If I have a bit more time and patience, I make a French braid. A high bun is my other favorite overnight hairstyle. I keep it loose and use invisibobble since it gives a good hold, not tugging or holding the hair too tight.

MY TOP OVERNIGHT HAIRSTYLES:

  • a high, loose bun on top of the head;
  • a low, loose bun right above the neck;
  • a three-strand braid above the neck;
  • a quite loose French braid.

STYLING HAIR WHILE ASLEEP?

If you like, you can go one step further and get no-heat curls. Use one of the methods making curls last – you can intensify the effect by braiding damp hair and applying a lightweight hair oil before braiding.

Depending on how you braid the hair, this kind of overnight styling gives various effects. Braids give a crimper effect, a bun gives fine or big waves whereas using wet wipes turns hair into gorgeous curls.

There are numerous eco-friendly ways of creating heatless, natural curls. You will find lots of inspirations online! 🙂

HIT ALERT! SATIN BONNET TO SLEEP

To finish, let me recommend a gadget I’ve discovered recently and which is an unquestioned hit for me <3

Have you ever heard that it’s best to sleep on a silk or at least satin pillowcase? It is about the softness of the material. I’ve got a better solution, though! A satin bonnet that secures your hair from tugging while asleep and at the same time you don’t need to tie the hair so there’s nothing bad happening to the hair follicles.
